Différentiabilité des solutions Résumé : The subject of this book is the solution of stiff differential equations and of differential-algebraic systems (differential equations with constraints). The book is divided into four chapters. The beginning of each chapter is of introductory nature, followed by practical applications, the discussion of numerical results, theoretical investigations on the order and accuracy, linear and nonlinear stability, convergence and asymptotic expansions. Stiff and differential-algebraic problems arise everywhere in scientific computations (e.g., in physics, chemistry, biology, control engineering, electrical network analysis, mechanical systems). Many applications as well as computer programs are presented. Note de contenu :
- Stiff problems - One-step methods
- Multistep methods for stiff problems
- Singular perturbation problems and index 1 problems

Différentiabilité des solutions Résumé : This book teaches the basic methods of partial differential equations and introduces related important ideas associated with the analysis of numerical methods for those partial differential equations. Standard topics such as separation of variables, Fourier analysis, maximum principles and energy estimates are included. Numerical methods are introduced in parallel to the classical theory. The numerical experiments are used to illustrate properties of differential equations and theory for finite difference approximations is developed. Numerical methods are included in the book to show the significance of computations in partial differential equations and to illustrate the strong interaction between mathematical theory and the development of numerical methods. Great care has been taken throughout the book to seek a sound balance between the analytical and numerical techniques. Note de contenu :
- Setting the Scene
- Two-Point Boundary Value Problems
- The Heat Equation
- Finite Difference Schemes For The Heat Equation
- The Wave Equation
- Maximum Principles
- Poisson’s Equation in Two Space Dimensions

Différentiabilité des solutions Résumé : This book is intended for students who wish to get an introduction to the theory of partial differential equations. The author focuses on elliptic equations and systematically develops the relevant existence schemes, always with a view towards nonlinear problems. These are maximum principle methods (particularly important for numerical analysis schemes), parabolic equations, variational methods, and continuity methods. This book also develops the main methods for obtaining estimates for solutions of elliptic equations: Sobolev space theory, weak and strong solutions, Schauder estimates, and Moser iteration. Connections between elliptic, parabolic, and hyperbolic equations are explored, as well as the connection with Brownian motion and semigroups. This book can be utilized for a one-year course on partial differential equations Note de contenu :
- Introduction The Laplace equation as the prototype of an elliptic partial differential equation of 2nd order
- The maximum principle
- Existence techniques I: methods based on the maximum principle
- Existence techniques II: Parabolic methods. The Head equation
- The wave equation and its connections with the Laplace and heat equation
- The heat equation, semigroups, and Brownian motion
- The Dirichlet principle. Variational methods for the solution of PDE (Existence techniques III)
- Sobolev spaces and L2 regularity theory
- Strong solutions
