Présentation : ill. Format : 20 cm Note générale : Trad. de : Discorsi e dimostrazioni matematiche, intorno à due nuoue scienze attenenti alla mecanica & i movimenti locali Langues : Anglais (eng) Langues originales : Italien (ita) Mots-clés : Mécanique
PhysiqueIndex. décimale : 531 Mécanique générale. Mécanique des corps solides et rigides. Résumé :
Perhaps the greatest of the renaissance scientific papers, these dialogues summarized Galileo's early experiments and mature thoughts on the principles of mechanics. Finished in 1636, the book appeared two years later in holland because no works of Galileo could be published in territories under the spiritual control of the catholic church. It is a work of literary as well as scientific genius. This edition contains an introduction by Antonio Favaro, editor of the standard national edition, the text of which was used by professors Crew and de Salvio for their classic translation.Note de contenu : Summary :
1. First new science, treating of the resistance which solid bodies offer to fracture. First day.
2. Concerning the cause of cohesion. Second day.
3. Second new science, treating of motion [movimenti locali]. Third day.
4. Violent motions. Projectiles. Fourth day.
5. Appendix; theorems and demonstrations concerning the centers of gravity of solids.Dialogues concerning two new sciences [texte imprimé] / Galileo, Galilei, Auteur ; Henry Crew, Traducteur ; Antonio Favaro, Préfacier, etc. . - New York : McGraw-Hill, 1963 . - XXI, 288 p. : ill. ; 20 cm. - (McGraw-Hill paperbacks; 22726) .
