Présentation : ill. Format : 24 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-8247-5361-0 Note générale : Index Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Adhesion -- Measurement
Adhesion -- Testing
SCIENCE -- NanoscienceIndex. décimale : 531.7 Mesure de grandeurs géométriques et mécaniques. Techniques de mesure en général.Instruments. Méthodes. Unités Résumé :
Adhesion Measurement Methods: Theory and Practice provides practical information on the most important measurement techniques, their unique advantages and disadvantages, and the selection of the proper method for a given application. It includes useful information and formulae on adhesion related matters such as driving force formulae for various modes of delamination, methods for estimating stress buildup, and material property data in support of "back of the envelope" calculations. The author presents optimal methods and tools used for measuring the adhesion of coatings and thin films as well as setting appropriate adhesion strength requirements. He provides a detailed overview of uses, implementation, and drawbacks for qualitative, semi-quantitative, and fully quantitative adhesion measurement techniques and self-loading systems. The book discusses thermal-mechanical behavior assessment, the application of the continuum theory of solids, and fracture mechanics, highlighting useful measures of adhesion strength such as stress intensity factor and strain energy release rate. It provides specific examples of how adhesion testing is carried out in practice, including the peel test, the scratch test, and the pull test, and describes the measurement of residual stress in a coating or other laminate structure. The book concludes with examples taken from the author's experience in the microelectronics industry and contains several appendices for looking up simple formulae and material propertydata for performing everyday calculations. Adhesion Measurement Methods is an ideal addition for courses on materials science, mechanics of materials, or engineering design of laminate structures at the advanced undergraduate or graduate level.Note de contenu :
* Overview of most common adhesion measurement methods.
* Theoretical foundations of quantitative adhesion measurement.
* Elementary fracture mechanics of solids: application to problems of adhesion.
* Applied adhesion testing.
* Adhesion aspects of coating and thin film stresses.

Résumé : Since its discovery in early 1900, turbulence has been an interesting and complex area of study. Written by international experts, Air Pollution and Turbulence: Modeling and Applications presents advanced techniques for modeling turbulence, with a special focus on air pollution applications, including pollutant dispersion and inverse problems. The book’s foreword was written by specialists in the field, including the Professor Sergej Zilitinkevich. Offering innovative atmospheric mathematical modeling methods, which can also be applied to other disciplines, the book includes: Discussions on the effects of soot and diesel particulates on building surfaces and human healthObservational studies of convective Atmospheric Boundary Layer (ABL) over pastures and forests in AmazoniaTheoretical studies of turbulence and turbulent transport modeling of contaminants during the decaying of a ABL convectiveThe parameterization of convective turbulence and clouds in atmospheric models based on the combination of the eddy-diffusivity and mass-flux approachesAnalytical solutions to the advection-diffusion equation and analytical models for air pollution, including those for low wind conditionsAnalytical solutions to the advection-diffusion equation using the Generalized Integral Laplace Transform Technique (GILTT) and the decomposition methodLagrangian stochastic dispersion models with applications for airborne dispersion in the ABLAtmospheric dispersion with Large Eddy Simulation (LES) using the Lagrangian and Eulerian approachesModeling of photochemical air pollution for better air quality managementAnalysis of the transport of a trace gas (CO2) at the global scale and overviews of the inverse-problem techniques for deducing emissions from known concentrationsThe book provides a solid theoretical understanding of turbulence and includes cases studies that illustrate subjects related to environmental sciences and environmental modeling. It reflects and summarizes recent developments in key areas of modeling atmospheric turbulence and air pollution. It pulls together information on techniques and methods used on turbulence, air pollution, and applications. While these topics are often covered separately, this book’s combined coverage of all three areas sets it apart. Note de contenu : Summary :
