the 8th large wastewater treatment plants conference was the first to mention economics explicity in its title. This was to underline the fact that wastewater treatment issues cannot be addressed solely as scientific-technical problems, but are deeply embedded in a socio-economic context. This need for a holistic approach was stressed by many participants, to whom the idea of dealing with either technology or economics in isolation made no sense.Note de contenu :
* Wastewater treatment in Hungary.
* Large projects and case studies.
* Planning, treatement processes and modelling for design.
* Operational experiences.
* Industrial plants.
* Sludge management.
* Costs and economics.Design, operation and economics of large wastewater treatement plants : selected proceedings of IAWQ international conference on large wastewater treatment plants [texte imprimé] / Hendrik Wade Bode, Editeur scientifique ; Grunebaum, T, Editeur scientifique ; Jardin, N, Editeur scientifique / International conference on large wastewater treatment plants (8 th; 6-9 September 1999; Budapest, Hungary), Auteur . - IWA Publishing, 2000 . - VIII-227 p. : ill. ; 24 cm. - (Water science and technology, ISSN 0273-1223; Vol. 41, n°09/2000) .

Urban water services are building blocks for healthy cities, and they require complex and expensive infrastructure systems. Most of the infrastructure is out of sight and tends to be taken for granted, but an infrastructure financing crisis looms in the United States because the systems are aging and falling behind on maintenance. A road map for public works and utility professionals, Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Infrastructure Management, Second Edition provides clear and practical guidance for life-cycle management of water infrastructure systems.
Grounded in solid engineering and business principles, the book explains how to plan, budget, design, construct, and manage the physical infrastructure of urban water systems. It blends knowledge from management fields such as facilities, finance, and maintenance with information about the unique technical attributes of water, wastewater, and stormwater systems.Note de contenu : Summary :
1. Urban water infrastructure for healthy cities.
2. Managing water systems and services.
3. Asset management for urban water systems.
4. Capital improvement planning and programming.
5. Engineering and construction for the infrastructure life cycle.
6. Financial management for urban water systems.
7. High-performance operation of water systems.
8. Risk management and disaster preparedness.
