This is a timely re-issue of a book, first published in 1955 and out of print since 1965, and rated as one of the most detailed scientific accounts available on the subject. The contents range from a history of wind-power production, through the selection of sites and the assessment of wind character- istics, the costs of wind-driven machines and their interaction with other power sources, to the need for international co-operation. The preface to the first edition includes â;Coal, oil and other fuels are being used up at an alarming rate...â.
Twenty-two years later the same observations are continually being made and yet realization of this fact is only now seeping through to the extent that we are deciding to do something about it. It is this change in attitude that allows, and presumably prompted, the re-issue of books like this. Much of the material is unaffected by the passage of time, though obviously estimates of cost now look somewhat hopeful |
