To achieve effective personalization, organizations must rely on all available data, including the usage and click-stream data (reflecting user behaviour), the site content, the site structure, domain knowledge, as well as user demographics and profiles. In addition, efficient and intelligent techniques are needed to mine this data for actionable knowledge, and to effectively use the discovered knowledge to enhance the users' Web experience. The aim of the International Workshop on Adaptive and Personalized Semantic Web that was held in the Sixteenth ACM Conference on Hypertext and Hypermedia (September 6-9, 2005, Salzburg, Austria) was to bring together researchers and practitioners in the fields of web engineering, adaptive hypermedia, semantic web technologies, knowledge management, information retrieval, user modelling, and other related disciplines which provide enabling technologies for personalization and adaptation on the World Wide Web. The book contains the papers presented during the workshop. Presentations of the papers are available online at www.hci.gr. This unified survey of the theory of adaptive filtering, prediction, and control focuses on linear discrete-time systems and explores the natural extensions to nonlinear systems. In keeping with the importance of computers to practical applications, the authors emphasize discrete-time systems. Their approach summarizes the theoretical and practical aspects of a large class of adaptive algorithms.
Ideal for advanced undergraduate and graduate classes, this treatment consists of two parts. The first section concerns deterministic systems, covering models, parameter estimation, and adaptive prediction and control. The second part examines stochastic systems, exploring optimal filtering and prediction, parameter estimation, adaptive filtering and prediction, and adaptive control. Extensive appendices offer a summary of relevant background material, making this volume largely self-contained. Readers will find that these theories, formulas, and applications are related to a variety of fields, including biotechnology, aerospace engineering, computer sciences, and electrical engineering.Note de contenu : Au sommaire :

The book includes recent research results in the area of adaptive nonlinear system identification and presents simple, concise, easy-to-understand methods for identifying nonlinear systems. These methods use adaptive filter algorithms that are well known for linear systems identification. They are applicable for nonlinear systems that can be efficiently modeled by polynomials.
After a brief introduction to nonlinear systems and to adaptive system identification, the author presents the discrete Volterra model approach. This is followed by an explanation of the Wiener model approach. Adaptive algorithms using both models are developed. The performance of the two methods are then compared to determine which model performs better for system identification applications.

One of the main requirements of power quality management is the guarantee of a sinusoidal voltage waveform with adequate amplitude at each node of the network. The fulfilment of such a control objective is facilitated by adaptive systems which can account for unpredictable fluctuations in operating conditions.
Adaptive Voltage Control in Power Systems, a self-contained blend of theory and novel application, is an in-depth treatment of such adaptive control schemes. The reader moves from power-system-modelling problems through illustrations of the main adaptive control systems (self-tuning, model-reference and nonlinearities compensation) to a detailed description of design methods: Kalman filtering, parameter-identification algorithms and discrete-time controller design are all represented. Case studies address applications issues in the implementation of adaptive voltage control.
Practicing engineers and researchers in power systems and control engineering will find this monograph, written by representatives of each field, to be a valuable synthesis of both while its accessible style will also appeal to graduate students.Note de contenu : The Voltage Control Problem in Power Systems.- System Modeling for Nodal Voltage Regulator Design.- Voltage and Current Phasor Identification.- Self-tuning Voltage Regulators.- Model-reference Adaptive Voltage Regulators.- Adaptive Nonlinearities Compensation Technique.- Appendix: Computer Models and Topology of Networks. The static fuzzy systems usually discussed in this context fail to take account of inputs outside a pre-set range and their off-line nature makes tuning complicated.
Advanced Fuzzy Logic Technologies in Industrial Applications addresses the problem by introducing a dynamic, on-line fuzzy inference system. In this system membership functions and control rules are not determined until the system is applied and each output of its lookup table is calculated based on current inputs.
The tuning process is a major focus in this volume because it is the most difficult stage in fuzzy control application. Using new methods such as µ-law technique, histogram equalization and the Bezier-based method, all detailed here, the tuning process can be significantly simplified and control performance improved.
The other great strength of this book lies in the range and contemporaneity of its applications and examples which include: laser tracking and control; robot calibration; image processing and pattern recognition; medical engineering; audio systems; autonomous underwater vehicles and data mining.
Advanced Fuzzy Logic Technologies in Industrial Applications is written to be easily understood by readers not having specialized knowledge of fuzzy logic and intelligent control. Design and application engineers and project managers working in control, as well as researchers and graduate students in the discipline will find much to interest them in this work.Note de contenu : Engineering, Control Engineering, Artificial Intelligence (incl.
