This is the first text in english which attempts to bring to the attention of geomorphologists the information and methods used by engineering geologists and geomechanics engineers and relates them to natural hillsopes. An account is given of the components of weathering processes in producing landforms and in reducing the resistance of rock to processes of erosion. The strength and behaviour of rock and soil, especially the importance of joints, is discussed in detail and is the basis for studies of slope stability. In discussions of landslides the pedological and geological conditions inhibiting or promoting failure are emphasized together with analyses of the forces acting on slopes. |
