This book is based on an earlier publication, cheaper, safer plants or wealth and safety at work_notes on inherently safer and simpler plants, published by the U.K. institution of chemical engineers in 1984(second sdition,1985), which has been rewritten and extended. The original book dealt only with inherently safer and simpler plants, but this new version considers also other ways of making plants more"user friendly." Thanks are due to the institution for permission to use material from the the original edition.
