Nine different techniques have been selected and are presented in this book. Each is the subject of a separate review paper written by authors who are internationally recognized authorities in their fields. A short introductory text is included with that particular method and each paper is accompanied by an up-to-date bibliography.Note de contenu : Summary:
1. Thermoanalytical methods in clay studies
2. High resolution electron-microscopy studies appliedto clay minerals
3. Neutron scattering techniques for the study of clay minerals
4. The use of NMR in the study of clay minerals

Its limited success was encouraging enough to begin again the long process was encouraging enough to begin the long process of reviewing the current literature, extracting the pertinent data, summarizing and finally analyzing the questions posed then can now be answered, yet many others await investigation by clay mineralogsts. What ever the short-comings of this book are, they reflect those of the author and not those of his many helpful colleagues and friends. Note de contenu : Summary:

Vase Résumé : Compaction of argillaceous sediments is an advanced text designed for teachers, researchers, industrial scientists and students who are engaged in carful and detailed studies of fine-grained sediments, and in the processes, effects, and research work in this field. The resulting book should be of great interest to geologists and engineers who are investigating the results of compaction of argillaceous sediments, especially because shales and related sedimntary rocks are wide-spread on the surface of the earth, and the various oil shales are great storehouses of korgen, which one day will have to be exploted. Note de contenu : Summary:
1. Introduction
2. Interrelationships among density, porosity, remaining moisture content, pressure and depht
3. Mechanics of compaction and compaction models
4. Effect of compaction on some properties of argillaceous sedements
5. Chemical alterations and behavior of interstitial fluids during compaction
6. Subsidence
7. Abnormal geopressures
8. Equipement and techniques used in compaction studiesCompaction of argillaceous sediments [texte imprimé] / Herman H. Rieke, Auteur ; Chilingarian, George V., Auteur . - Amsterdam : Elsevier, 1974 . - XIV-424 p. : ill. ; 24 cm. - (Developments in sedimentology; 16) .
